IDE 611 – Technology for Instructional Settings
Course Summary
In this course, students will study issues related to information technologies used in educational settings, and will gain experience with a variety of technology tools relevant to educational contexts. Students are expected to be self-directed and self-motivated in learning to use a range of information technologies. Students will be introduced to a variety of technologies used in education and training, such as web-based social software, wireless communications, and information technologies designed for use by students with disabilities. While assistance in learning to use these tools is available, direct, hands-on instruction in specific information technologies is not included in the course content.
Emphasis will be balanced between knowledge about information technologies and the use of information technologies in a range of settings. In addition to participating in class discussions and maintaining and commenting on blogs, students will work together in small teams and/or with practitioners on a major technology-based project in order to gain practical experience in an educational organization.
